A water bath is an apparatus in the laboratory that heats samples. A container with hot water inside it makes up a laboratory water bath. It is used to maintain a steady temperature for a protracted length of time while incubating materials in water.

Keeping a check on cell lines, melting substrates, warming reagents, incubating cell cultures, and heating substances that may catch fire if exposed to an open flame are its other uses.

When heating flammable substances to prevent ignition, a water bath is better to choose than an open flame.

Parts that a water bath includes:

      • A control panel
      • Heating unit
      • Chamber made up of stainless steel

      Various kinds of water baths:

      Shaking Water Baths:

For the flow of liquids, the shaking water bath uses more control over the shaking feature. The shaking has an on/off switch. Cell cultures that are liquid-grown can continually mingle with the air in microbiological procedures because of the frequent shaking.

The user-friendly keypad operation, the simple bath drains, the adjustable shaking frequencies, etc., are some of the main advantages of this kind of water bath.

      Circulating Water Baths:

There is a proper circulation of the bath's water in the circulating water baths. That is why when it comes to uses that need the samples to either have consistency or homogeneity in temperature, stirrers or circulating water baths could come in handy. These uses could involve tests such as enzymatic and serologic. It is properly circulated, which results in a more consistent temperature.

      Non-circulating Water Baths:

Such kind of Laboratory water baths does not heat the water equally but rather depend on the process of convection. The water bath's ability to manage temperature is less precise as a result. To agitate the water bath to improve heat transmission, you can make use of extra accessories too.

Water baths are suitable for using up to 99.9 °C temperature. Alternatives may be utilized when the temperature is above 100 °C. That is why make sure that you know your requirements pretty well and buy accordingly.
